Metro Manila · Peter "Bruno Mars" Hernandez (* 8 October 1985)
Honolulu born Peter Gene Hernandez more popularly known as Bruno Mars shot to stardom when Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire”, a song that he co-wrote and produced, hit the airwaves.
The Grammy winner is born to a Filipino mother and a Puerto Rican father who, according to Bruno Mars, met in a show where his father Pete played the percussion and his mother Bernie danced the hula. Coming from a musically inclined family on both sides, Bruno, as he is fondly called by his father because of his resemblance to Bruno Sammartino –a professional wrestler, started performing at a very young age. When he was four years old, he joined his family’s band The Love Notes.
The singer/songwriter born in Hawaii moved to Los Angeles to pursue his singing career just after his high school graduation, according to a story Bruno Mars recounted during an interview. He signed a contract with Motown Records but was later dropped by the label. By 2009, the young musician got a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
Bruno Mars is among the best-selling artists of all time with him selling over 100 million singles worldwide. He also received a number of awards and nominations including four Grammy Awards in 2011.
