Metro Manila · Photo Gallery: Dangwa Flower Market before Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is peak season for the dozens of flower sellers at the Dangwa Flower Market in Manila. Husbands, boyfriends and suitors arrive from all over the Megacity to find something nice for their loved ones, from individual roses to lush bouquets. The often long journey is worth it. Although prices rise steeply ahead of Valentine's, fresh flowers are still much cheaper here than in other parts of Manila.
The piles of flowers were complemented by pink teddy bears and heart-shaped ballons for Valentine's Day. A producer of condoms set up a booth to make sure that the Valentine's romance won't lead to any unintended consequences this year. The market is open until late in the evening on Valentine's Day, offering flowers from all over the Philippines as well as other countries, such as Thailand and the Netherlands. Megacitizens.com captured the scene in and around the Manila Flower Center in Sampaloc on Friday, 13 February 2015.
