Metro Manila · The Peninsula Manila
The Peninsula is not only one of Manila's top accommodations but also a distinctive landmark, thanks to its spectacular grand hotel architecture and its location in the very heart of Makati.
The five-star hotel opened in 1976 and is known for its big fountain and waterfalls at the corner of Ayala and Makati Avenue. The Peninsula has almost 500 rooms and 46 luxurious suites. It has seven bars and restaurants, namely Old Manila, Escolta, Spices, Salon de Ning, The Bar, The Pool Snack Bar, and The Peninsula Boutique. We recommend in particular to visit Salon de Ning, a night club with a crazy art deco design, reminiscent of 1930s Shanghai.
The Peninsula awaits you with an extensive wellness programme, with a tropical spa and pool area, gym, and the Naturally Peninsula dining concept.
On November 29, 2007, an insurgence was attempted right in this hotel, the so-called Manila Peninsula Rebellion. A brigadier general and 30 other soldiers, joined by military personnel and civilians, occupied the second floor and demanded the ousting of then Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. They surrendered after several hours, when a military armored personnel carrier barged into the glass door of the hotel lobby.
Why Megacitizens Should Pay This Establishment A Visit
A tip for those who cannot stay over night but want to experience the splendid interior of the Peninsula: visit The Lobby, the bar in the majestic entrance area. Here you can lean back in elegant armchairs, have a drink under palm trees, and listen to a live jazz band. It is open 24/7 and has free WiFi.
