This HotSpot is located in the core of the heart of the Megacity Manila – Makati Downtown. The HotSpot is not only a collection of offices and embassies but has also everything you need on a typical work day. A wide selection of chain stores are conveniently located all over the HotSpot ranging from McDonalds to Starbucks. No matter if you look for a location to have business-lunch or an after-work drink, Salcedo Village has it all.

As a special treat, the HotSpot offers the 'Salcedo Market' on every Saturday at which the Salcedo Park is converted into a cozy market featuring international cuisine and local products. Feeling lonely and want to share lunch or dinner with some other Megacitizens? That is the place to be on a Saturday afternoon. Another feature of Salcedo Village is the 'Makati Sports Club'. The club offers you the opportunity to play Tennis, do some rounds of swimming or just enjoy a nice lunch while tanning and all of that in the middle of Makati! Guarded from the fast pacing and stressful environment, Makati Sports Club offers you a haven of silence.

Another important topic of this HotSpot are the streets. To start with the good news: the HotSpot has Jolly Jeeps. Jolly Jeeps are small stalls on the street/pavement which offer traditional Filipino food for a very low price. Most of the dishes sold there are cooked somewhere else and brought to the Jeep. So you don't have to be afraid that the food is actually cooked on the street. I have been to some different Jeeps there and have never had any problem. If you are gutsy: try it! If you prone to stomach problems: better not try it! It normally works like that: You point on the dish you want and then show all the stuff you want to buy to the woman sitting between the Jeeps. She tells you a price, you pay her and then you are good to go! The downside of the Salcedo traffic is... the traffic. If you drive yourself, be careful: there are a lot of one-way streets. If you are not driving yourself but still want to go from A to B, better not try that between 7 am and 10 am as well as between 5 pm and 8 pm. It is just mind-blowing how much time you can spend to make 100 meter progress.

However, let me finish on a lighter note: Salcedo is clean, well-lit and offers everything you need during for your daily routine.

A Typical Day in the Salcedo HotSpot

A typical day in the Salcedo Hotspot starts with a nice 2nd breakfast. If Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Teaf Leaf, Kopi Roti or any other caffeinated chain store: you will find a nice treat that wakes you up. So I decide to start 30 minutes later today and order a French Toast and a coffee from the Starbucks around my office. After that I go to work where I notice that there is an upcoming lunch-meeting with an important client. One phone call later, I have a table reserved at my favorite French place, conveniently located between my office and the office of our client – 5 minutes walking distance for each of us. We enjoy lunch and business at a quiet corner table while indulging European specialties. The deal and the lunch are finished off with a nice cup of Espresso. Back at work I notice that it is the birthday of one of my colleagues. She invites us all to a drink after-work which I cannot refuse. Knowing that I will be a bit late, I tell them to go ahead. There is no need for them to wait for me anyway as every bar is located within 15 minute walking distance. Having finally arrived at the bar, I join my colleagues in the celebration of the birthday – while watching busy man and woman in suits pacing up and down the streets of the HotSpot.

The Mandarin Oriental Manila was one of the first luxury hotels in the Central Business District when it opened in September 1976. For more than 40 years, the hotel hosted countless international stars, diplomats, businessmen and Manila's creme de la creme within its storied walls. Each year, the Metro's elite and members of the press awaited its popular Chinese New Year countdown led by its resident geomancer Joseph Chau. A new Mandarin Hotel is set to open in Makati, just across its former location, in 2020.
